Fun fact: spicy peanut butter is quite common in China as well. In Shanghai where I grew up, we also had a sort of noodle salad that we’d have in the summer. The sauce was peanut butter, soy sauce, dark vinegar and Lao Gan Ma (Chili crisp with fermented black bean sauce in oil). We use wheat noodles with thin strips of carrots, cucumber and tofu, but it’s really a special feeling when you find someone else in a different culture so far away had the same inspiration as your own ancestors.

DeVonn: "I really like this recipe because most of the ingredients you can probably find in your refrigerator or pantry..." Pulls out Scotch Bonnet Peanut Butter and yellow carrots. Huh? Come on BA, different people but still the same rarity of bougie ingredients, like the old shows where you assumed we all filled our cabinets with every fermented or farm-raised product ever invented. HOW DO I MAKE IT IF I ONLY HAVE REGULAR STORE PEANUT BUTTER? Better yet, how do I make such a peanut butter? Real people use grocery stores, especially right now. Proud that you are showing support for a BIPOC company, and am glad to learn about there existence for future reference, but my pantry rarely has $20 (w/S&H) peanut butter that I have to mail order.

We loved this recipe! We made this yummy spicy noodles for dinner just now and it rocked! We were able to follow along with the video, no problem; it was really easy to figure out and adapt based on the ingredients we had. The sour cabbage/carrot salad was the bomb. Thanks!

Love DeVonn and the dish looks delicious, but I absolutely hate this format. I love that my NYC brother is getting his coin in these trying times but I hated the first ten minutes because it continuously feels like Condé Nast is trying too hard and they’re using this young man as a political pawn. If you’re gonna pander BA at least give the man a camera stabilizer.

I'm here for Devonn, found him on Instagram where he seems personable. I think it may just take a little time for some of the new staff to get comfortable in front of the camera in this style. Also the ad in the beginning a little distracting. And a full recipe would be nice

I think the video is fine and this chef made a dish that looks delicious! To everyone being so critical, you’re entitled to have your opinions but if you have nothing but negative feelings about bon appetite why do you continue to watch? Why not put your energy and time toward supporting content that you like? Before people were bashing BA for the unfair treatment of some the BIPOC on their team (which was unfair and wrong), now people are bashing them for trying to include diversity. I’m not saying BA’s content is absolute perfection, but they are making an attempt to diversify their chefs and content. If the changes are still too “fake woke” or “cringey” for you there are plenty of other channels for you to watch. It’s not like BA or anyone for that matter is forcing you to keep watching. Please make it make sense.

It's like salty/sweet. You can get regular PB that's just ground peanuts and salt, though. Sugar and fat are added to make it shelf stable and spreadable. Otherwise, it will go rancid faster and needs refrigeration unless it's used quickly. So that's what people got used to.
